Sherman Pass Opening 2025
by Mark Kuttor
On Father’s Day weekend, June 14, the Bricker family, George Graham, the Kuttor Family, and new prospective member, Randy Zade, camped at Paloma Meadow, with the aim to open our half of the Sherman Pass 4×4 trail.
At 9:00am on Saturday, we met the Forest Service and headed up the trail. This year was relatively light year, with only 12 trees cut in total.
However, there were a few monsters. One of them was so BIG, we attached Mark’s Jeep in tandem with Noah’s 4Runner that was already attached to the tree. It was a sight to watch.
The trail is in good shape, but every year there seems to be more and more dead fall up there. We made it all the way to the peak without any issues. No snow at all. We explored a side shoot that leads to a mine but is now blocked off completely due to a VERY large boulder. There are thoughts about how to tackle the boulder on the trail.
All in all, it was a great weekend for camping. The campsite we stayed at was gorgeous and the temperature was perfect. We all had a blast trying our hand at spitting wood with less than stellar axes. Camping up here two years in a row, I think this will be our new tradition for opening Sherman Pass.
Thank you to all helped out, joined us for the ride, and camped that weekend. We all had a blast.
